After two years of hearing about the Standard Rate And Data Services (SRDS) list book, I finally took the initiative to hunt it down at our main library here in Salt Lake. I checked two weeks ago and it was out on loan to another location, but gave it a try tonight and struck gold.

I cannot believe the amount of targeted lists that are available. I think I read somewhere tonight there is an estimated 60,000 mailing lists available to mail to on any given day. I was currently looking for Forex Investor mailing lists for our Forex Investment Coaching site, Lots-Of-Pips.com. But, I also started looking at other niches as well as I started paging through the thick book of mailing lists.

Here are some of the list broker sites I found:

The minimum list rental for most of the list brokers are 5,000 - 10,000 names. I did find a few that had a minimum based on dollar amount, of those most minimums were $500. I know some of you may be thinking “wow, that sounds expensive”, however the amount of segmenting you can do along with a list of proven buyers depending on the list it can be well worth the investment.

For some help interpreting the datacards for the different lists, Fred Woolf lists has put togethor a gloassary/FAQ breaking down the different information on the Datacards.

List Broker FAQ

Part of the reason this came back up in my mind was from recently listening to the 12 Month Millionaire audios from Russell Brunson. Direct Marketing and List Rental was a major factor in the success of that marketer.

You can still get your own copy of Twelve Month Internet Millionaire.

I will be putting togethor a video later this month walking you through what I am looking for in a list as I review some of the datacards for different lists I am considering mailing for a few of the clients we have for our backend coaching systems at GurusForHire.com.

To our online success,
Kevin

  1. Standard Rate & Data Service was a standard in the days before the computer and internet. Long a fan of their’s I almost took a job with them at their Chicago headquarters in the 1960s. Instead, I quit my job with a Chicago publishing company and launched my own publishing business, newsletter, Business Opportunities Digest. Had a New York list broker who sold one time rentals of my lists for $15-$25 per thousand. Big change since then I guess, at least in pricing.

Glad to see some information on SRDS. I’d been wondering whatever happened to them.
