Surfing through Entrecard sites yesterday racking up credits, I noticed a new plugin on JohnChow.com. He has added the MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad Plugin. It’s the same plugin I added last night which places a single line ad at the top of your blog page. Visitors were quick to jump on his comments wondering when it would be availbale for advertisers. He quickly opened up 5 slots for the stripe ad at $250 each, and quickly sold out adding another $1250 a month to the monthly revenue at JohnChow.com.
I am still taking it easy, laying out how I want to monetize my blog, but I am currently testing the Stripe Ad as well to see what CTR (Click Through Rate) it brings. I will be running my own ads on it for the rest of the month and probably open it up for outside advertisers in February.
There is much debate in the comments over at John Chow. related to removing the “Powered by” link back to MaxBlogPress. John has removed it from his installation and many of the people in the comments have stated that it is falling under the GNU/GPL licensing of wordpress because of the structure of the code, and the absence of other licensing terms within the readme file.

Nice post. I’m still skeptical about a lot of John’s methods, for sure he’s making money but there are so many levels of affiliation underneath John that it’s likely to be quite hard for any of us to make money from his referrals…..unless you build your own large network of affiliates and have people sign up on them, therefore multiplying each of your ads..almost like a pyramid scheme..
Anyway, I’ll be interested to see how you find the new strip ad..
Hey Kevin!
I just read John’s post about the Stripe and I saw it in action - wow, he can sure command some attention! He gets results though.
Did you actually add the Stripe to your site? If you did, you may want to check on it as I don’t see it here on my machine.
If you haven’t added it yet, no worries.
I’ll be happy to provide you any feedback you need, from my particular perspective on the matter.

Hey Pam,
I had the stripe ad set to only appear at the top of the page. I have changed it to move down the page as you scroll now, that may be why you didn’t see it.
If you still can’t see it, please let me know what browser you are using. I am able to see it on both IE7, and Firefox on my systems.
