This weekend, I started receiving text messages from people I don’t know as a form of text message spam. It is not enough that we get bombarded each day by email by spammers, no they have evolved to spamming our cellphones as well.
Here is the first message I received from Solomon@myspace.com

The funny thing is they are using these messages to market CPA (cost per action) offers. When I visited the site, it flashed through a CPA redirect over to www3.hunt-for-the-money.com which gives you a chance to win a $1,000,000 just for submitting your email. Yeah right!
I am really suprised the CPA network is allowing this kind of marketing, and I would hate to be the actual advertiser trying to convert these optins. I guess they must no their metrics and it is working for them.
The not so funny thing is I am paying like 50 cents a message. Luckily, I only received 2, and didn’t receive one today.
If they could actually track the response down to the cellphone they sent it to, that would be awesome, then they could follow up with those that actually went to the website through another text or a follow up message through broadcast.
It will be interesting to see what our connected economy brings over the next five years and what we grow to accept as we become blinded by even more invasive marketing.
