A Few Changes at KevinHDavis.com
Jan 13th, 2008 | By Kevin | Category: blogging, make money, personalWe made a few changes today at KevinHDavis.com. I spent a couple hours this evening going through affiliate programs up at Commission Junction (CJ.com). Besides the programs I already belonged to, I applied for some new hosting programs, along with others that met the small business marketing area. I then spent some time selecting the ad creatives and setting them up to be rotated on the site.
For ad rotation, I am using Open Ads which used to be PHP Ads New. If you have Linux hosting, you probably can install it pretty easily through Fantastico. The interface to Open Ads can be overwhelming to some people. I know I have always had moans and groans when I mentioned it to different people on Warriors Forum, but it works well at rotating ads, and tracking click through stats. If your selling adspace on your site, it also has some nice features to create clients and track their ad buy. The system will automatically stop their ad running after a certain timeframe like 30 day, or number of impressions if your selling by CPM. If your still looking for hosting, or looking for additional hosting, Hostgator is the best overall host and offers 24/7 support. We have used them in the past, and didn’t have problems with them until we were pushing too much traffic through our reseller accounts and moved to a different dedicated server provider. Hostgator had the most banner available of all the hsoting providers at CJ, so I am sure there is probably a banner from them showing on the page your reading.
The final change was to take the rotator code from Open Ads and integrate it into the site. To do this, I made changes to a text widget I already had in place under the EntreCard ad, and replaced the PayPerPost and Butterfly Marketing Manuscript 125X125 ads with the same size ads running through Open Ads. Presently, within my Open Ads installation, I have my campaigns grouped by ad size. I may in the future group them by ad size, and product type. Open Ads also gives you the option of selecting ads by keyword, but I haven’t tried that feature yet. I also modified the template files to incorporate 468X60 ads into each of the posts. Some people don’t believe this size banner is as effective as the larger square ads like you see on JohnChow.com, but time will tell.
To our online success,
Kevin
