Well, I finally fell of the wagon and missed making a post yesterday for the first time this year.

Instead of making a post last night, Laura and I went to a new movie called “The Bucket List” with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nickelson. The over all premise of the movie is the both of them have only a year to live, and try to complete a list of things they want to accomplish before they “kick the bucket”. I would say it is one of my favorite movies of the year, but of course it is still early.

One of the reasons we went was in preparation for a presentation I was giving this morning at the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce on goal setting called On Your Mark, Get Set, Goal! One of my goals for the year is to speak professionally at least six times this year, and this mornings presentation was the beginning of that.

So, I titled this post You, Only More Successful to suggest to you to set into motion a year of goal setting. A challenge to make 2008, your best year ever. It all begins with identifying what you want to accomplish this year.

What would you like to do?

Who would you like to meet?

Where would you like to go?

How will this year impact your business?

How much more money will you be bringing in at the end of 2008?

The presentation at the chamber this morning went very weel after a couple technical difficulties in the beginning and was well received by everyone that woke up early to honor me with their participation.

Over the next few days I’ll share some of the highlights from my presentation here on my blog, and then this weekend, I will be recording the presentation in Camtasia, and make it available here on my blog for everyone to benefit from.

Guidelines For Effective Goals

  • Goals that you want to accomplish need to be realistic. Wiining the lottery is a dream, not a goal. Other than buying a lot of tickets and prayer, there is not a lot of action you can take to influence the outcome.
  • Your goals should be measureable. You need to be able to know when you have accomplished your goal, and if you are making progress along the way.
  • The probability of achieve your goals is directly related to your commitment level. Goals are not dreams, they have deadlines. If you cannot commit to the goal, it is best to move it over to your dream list and focus on something you can commit to.
  • You need to be specific when defining your goal. If you wnat to lose weight, how much? In what timeframe do you want to lose the weight. A good example would be to lose 20 pounds by June 27th, 2008
  • Lastly, you want to focus on the outcome. While you need to identify different steps to complete along the way to achieving the goal, you should focus on the end goal, and your intuition will show you the path you need to follow.

Following these simple principles will increase your chance of success this year and help you build a better business, or a better you.

To a better you,
Kevin
