What Makes A Marketer Ethical?

After a heated comment on my previous post “The Way Of The Ethical Marketer” today, I have been thinking maybe I am fooling myself, maybe he/she is right.  Not really, actually, I thought it would be good to here from my readers what they feel makes an ethical marketer.

What do you feel makes a marketer ethical?

Simply leave a comment on this post and you will get a complementary copy of my Samurai Marketing Course when it is released later this year.  I am targeting releasing it for my anniversary in September.  This is a $297 value, so well worth the opinion (Maybe ending all your prices in 7 is not ethical).

I really want to know what you like and dislike about the marketers in your inbox.

Thanks,
Kevin

  1. I have a running series in my blog that offers some ideas from ethical marketers of various sorts. from a parental point of view and two environmental marketers (Jonathon Colman of Nature Conservancy and Chris Baskind of Vida Verde Media). John Mueller has agreed to also contribute when he gets the time to do so.

Each of them consist of Q&A that address 5 questions.

One of the best ways to consider what’s ethical and what is not, is to evaluate the affects that your products, services promote in the broader spectrum - globally. Places such as Wal Mart, for example, may seem ethical but cause wide spread (global) demise.

Who are we promoting/marketing? Is it consumer friendly as well as environmentally safe? or is it harmful to mindsets..promotion of self interest without thought to what it contributes to?

Ethics is frequently dismissed by those that need an excuse to be who they are and accomplish their materialistic goals. They would rather generalize and say “Everyones ideas of what ethics consist of are different”

Mindfulness of how it affects us as a nation, a globe and as human beings is the first place to start when breaking your variation down. The rest will fall into place. And yes, your opinion may still be different from others. But we do what we can do. Consumer rights before consumer wallet.

  2. By the way, you do not have to publish this, but I forgot to add the link to the series of posts (interviews):
