Keyword Tool Updated On Google

Google unveiled a major change to their keyword tool this week, now providing actual search numbers for each of the keywords provided by the tool. They not only give the average monthly search, but the actual searches for the previous month.
The results can be focused down to exact match or phrase match as well, providing additional insight not previously available.
During my testing today, I question the accuracy of some of results they are providing since i am seeing matching numbers for variations of exact match keywords.
I wouldn’t suggest these results to be taken as gospel, however it is a great starting place for optimizing your campaigns and focusing only on keywords that have enough traffic to warrant the higher cost of keywords in adwords.
This is also a great place to identify new niches to focus on. One example I found today was for “Skateboard Layouts” with more than 100,000 searches a month and no adwords competition. While there are plenty of FREE skateboard layouts for MySpace, I would venture to guess that people searching for Skateboard Layouts may also have a skateboard and be interested in skateboard parts or Vans shoes, etc.
Extending that search to focus on layouts, gave me a ton of other type of layouts people are looking for to improve their MySpace page.
