Latest OpenX Ad Server Installed Successfully

Eventually, the files finally made up to the server, and i pointed my browser to the folder I uploaded them to. The installation wizard welcomed me to the new installation and walked me through the installation process. I did have to created a database and database user, and setup some permissions on some folders, otherwise the installation was very easy.
If you’re used to installing scripts through Fantastico, this installation may be too much for you, but if you just follow the instructions, the install wizard still makes it very easy. we will probably be featuring an installation video in InternetMarketingHelpdesk.com next month, and will probably add installation, configuration and management to GurusForHire.com as well.
When I logged in to the Ad Server, it was still very familiar. One of the nice updates was to display the banner without having to click on a link to bring it up. Now when you add a new banner, it actually shows up in the next tab. This is great and saves me a lot time when setting up new campaigns.
I also clicked on the home tab to check out the new dashboard widgets. As more widgets get developed, this will be a great overview of your ad campaigns. Currently, there are not a lot of widgets, and I didn’t see any documentation in the developers area on how to create your own widgets.
When I first brought up the dashboard, I was given an XMLRPC error but was able to resolve that by rebuilding PHP on my server adding a couple required extensions I didn’t have enabled. If you are using shared hosting like Hostgator, these are probably already enabled so you shouldn’t have any problems. i did remember seeing some notes on shared hosting in the installation notes, but didn’t check them out since I was installing on our dedicated server.
I am also having a problem currently with the new click tracking features using banners from Generator Software. OpenX is tracking the clicks and impressions, but the salesletter is not coming up because of and invlaid tracker being passed. I’ll work that out tommorrow.
I didn’t get a chance to start checking out the API tonight but that will be on the agenda this week.
Until the next update,
Kevin
