A Serious Facelift On My Blog Today

Oct 21st, 2008 | By Kevin | Category: Featured Posts, blogging

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed with Feedburner. Thanks for visiting!

We have had quite a productive day today here at KevinHDavis.com. You will notice the banners are now back in force. But that’s not all that is back, I finally resurrected the subscription widget with a whole new look. You can still subscribe by email or RSS. Looking at ProBlogger.net, I noticed he had a page dedicated to educating his visitors about RSS. I have followed suit and added a page featuring a video describing RSS in plain English.

I have also finally taken advantage of one of the extra features in the Branford Magazine template adding thumbnail images to each of the posts featured in the center column. This draws a little more attention to each of them and distinguishes between the featured categories by using different icons.

The icons I used came from a set of icons I bought from IStockPhoto. IStock has a lot of choice up there. Of course it was still hard finding the perfect icon for each of the categories, so I made do with what I had until I can create some new variations for the more obscure categories.

After much prodding from Robby LeBlanc, I have once again added my photo to the header graphic.

To make room for a banner in the header, I have removed the search form but will be adding it later into the navigation bar. I took a crack at integrating it earlier today, but kept running into formatting problems so I removed it temporarily.

With the daily posts this month, traffic has increased dramatically, along with an dramatic increase in comments. A big thank you goes out to everyone for the active comments, I really appreciate the feedback and suggestions. A specific thank goes out to Oliver George from OpenX. I probably wouldn’t have taken such a close look at the new release and setup by campaigns as effectively without your comments here and on YouTube.

For banner zones on the blog, I am now running 468X60, 250X250, 125X125, 120X600 banner ads. A couple are still running through my old ad server, but a majority are now running through the new ad server installation. So far, so good. I still need to look into the single call functionality added in the new release to improve performance.

With the added banners, I will also start opening up some ad slots for paid advertising probably in the next week or so if your interested.

Well, I think that is about all of the latest updates from today.

Until tommorrow,
Kevin
