Evernote – The Quest For The Killer Application
Dec 1st, 2008 | By Kevin | Category: Featured Posts, personalMy search for the latest and greatest technology on the web continued today and led me to a really cool tool that I am starting to test. The tool is called Evernote. The concept behind it is capture anything with text by any means, and it will catalog and index it for you on their site.
I started some initial tests this evening with mixed results using the camera on my Blackberry. Even with poor lighting, Evernote was able to pick up some keywords from the image and index them so I could search for them on the site. One of my tests was a DVD case. Evernote was able to pick up the main title, but there was not enough contrast in the text color for it to pick up the subtitle. Still it was very remarkable.
Another test was a snapshot of a document on my laptop screen. The image was of a headline in Adobe InDesign and Evernote was able to index each word of the headline. Evernote was several other tools on their website to help you capture all different types of formats. Their site is at Evernote.com.
They have both a free and paid service. Even the paid service is really reasonable at $5 a month.
I will be using the service to capture copywriting sample that catch my eye each day. Simply capturing it with my Blackberry camera and emailing it to Evernote, will store and index the copy for later use.
I found this while researching another service called Tarpipe.com which I’ll talk about tomorrow.
