Are You Backing Up Your Wordpress Database?

If you have ever been hacked or had a webserver hard drive fail, you know how painfull it can be to lose your Wordpress Blog database.  We invest a huge amount of time writing quality content, the last thing you want to do is lose it all right?

Well, after losing mine a few years ago, I started searching for the best backup plugin for Wordpress and came across one I am stioll using and really like.  It is called WP-DBManager, and is from an infamous plugin developer Lester “GamerZ” Chan.  All of Lester’s plugins I have used have been great.

One of the key features of this plugin, is on a scheduled basis, it backs up the database storing the backup in a folder on the webserver but also emails you a copy.  This is great, because if anything happens down the line I still have a backup being created every 3 days and emailed to me.  If you are doing Wordpress upgrades, it is also very easy to run a manual backup and have that emailed to you as well through the admin console.

Here is a screen shot of the admin console:

Do you have a backup strategy for your blog?  If you think your host has you covered, you may want verify that, as well as put a backup to the backup in place with a plugin like this just in case the hosting provider has a problem as well.

Thanks,
Kevin

    Good advice!

I’ve been using this back up plugin for some time. I wouldn’t be without it. I lost data a few years ago too. It’s heartbreaking. It took me a long time to catch up.

Yikes! I’ve just started my wordpress blog and hadn’t even thought about having to back it all up – thanks for alerting me to this fact. It is soul-detroying to lose a lot of work, so losing a lot of blog work would be equally as awful.
