I attended a business networking after-hours event tonight with Fiscal Networking tonight here in Salt Lake. Our host was the Bruce Lee of Sushi, Jonas Otsuji. Jonas teaches Sushi Classes here in Salt Lake at Orson Gygi, as well as private parties throughout the valley. He also provides Sushi Catering for all sizes of groups.
How could marketing be like sushi?
Here are a few ways I thought of tonight…
- It’s an art. Two people can take exactly the same ingredients and come up with a totally different masterpiece or failure. Don’t worry, failure is part of the process.
- It takes practice. The more you do it, the better it gets. Tonight was my second sushi class, some things were better, some not so much.
- It may not be for everyone. While everyone should make an honest effort you may find that your marketing like sushi making should be left to someone else like Gurus For Hire.
Here is a highlight video of Jonas and some of his Sushi.

Oh, Kevin, I would love to take a sushi class! Wish I lived near Salt Lake. Looks like tons of fun.
I’ve made a few attempts at making sushi myself and I’ll have to admit — the end result was not too shabby.
Trying to make sushi is a lot like internet marketing. You have to learn the skills and have the right tools and techniques!
